George Thiewes: Expanding the Sculptural Field
Tempe-based sculptor George Thiewes creates by hand what appear to be industrially fabricated sculptures that are simultaneously monumental and subtle to the point of almost disappearing. His elegant, blade-like forms shift with the perspective of the viewer from sculptural mass to thin lines on the wall. This will be the first museum exhibition of Thiewes’s work. It is the inaugural exhibition in the relocated Marshall Gallery on the lower level of the new gallery wing.
