C. Ryan Joyce will drive all fundraising and development operations for PhxArt
PHOENIX (May 13, 2025) – Phoenix Art Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of C. Ryan Joyce as the institution’s new Chief Development Officer. In this role, Joyce will oversee all fundraising and development operations for the Museum, including major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, planned giving, and Board of Trustees engagement. His first day at Phoenix Art Museum is May 19, 2025.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Joyce to the senior leadership team at Phoenix Art Museum,” said Jeremy Mikolajczak, the Museum’s Sybil Harrington Director and CEO. “As the Museum seeks to make significant strides toward achieving the strategic priorities set forth in our new Strategic Plan, Ryan’s leadership, fundraising, and relationship-building experience will be critical not only in nurturing relationships with long-standing Museum donors but also in stewarding new supporters of PhxArt, with an eye toward building greater financial sustainability for the institution and exploring opportunities for future growth and evolution.”
Joyce brings more than 15 years of senior development experience, primarily in the education sector. Prior to joining the Museum, he served two tenures as Director of Development at Phoenix Country Day School, Arizona’s oldest non-sectarian, independent pre-K–12 institution. There, he directed all fundraising initiatives and led two historic capital campaigns: Thrive, a $25 million effort, and Play On, a $40 million campaign focused on the arts.
Previously, Joyce held the position of Director of Institutional Advancement at one of New York City’s oldest private schools. There, he managed all aspects of fundraising strategy, oversaw the largest capital campaign in the school’s history, and revitalized its alumni engagement programs nationwide. He also served as Director of Institutional Advancement at Leysin American School in Switzerland, a premier international boarding school. Based in the Swiss Alps, Joyce led global advancement efforts and cultivated donor relationships across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, spending more than 200 days annually meeting with supporters around the world.
Earlier in his career, Joyce worked as an educator and nationally recognized speech and debate coach in New Jersey, New York, and Arizona. His dedication to teaching earned him the Marcella E. Oberle Award for Outstanding Teaching from the National Communication Association and the title of National Speech and Debate Coach of the Year from the National Speech and Debate Association.
Joyce holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Scranton and studied at the Samuel Beckett School of Drama at Trinity College Dublin. He also completed the Teachers as Scholars Program at Princeton University. Originally from New York, he has lived in Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland, and is proud to once again call Arizona home.
