MEDIA ADVISORY: In response to coronavirus (COVID-19), Phoenix Art Museum cancels events and tours through April 3

PHOENIX (March 13, 2020) – With the health and safety of our visitors, Members, staff, and community at the forefront of our minds, and in line with the recommendations of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), Phoenix Art Museum is canceling all on-site and off-site Museum programs and events, including daily public and school tours, effective immediately through April 3. For a full list of canceled events, visit phxart.org/events/calendar/.

The Museum will continue to monitor recommendations from federal and state public-health authorities, and if additional events and activities are canceled after April 3, we will communicate those changes via email, through our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), and at phxart.org, which offers visitor information in both English and Spanish.

The Museum remains open during regular operating hours as a place of calm and respite, but we will continue to assess our operational plans as more information surrounding COVID-19 is released. If it becomes necessary to adjust our business hours, we will provide notification via the same channels mentioned above. Community members may also contact the Museum’s front office at 602.257.1880 to verify any changes in hours or services.

Ticket Refunds

The Museum will be refunding event tickets automatically within 7-10 business days, but if individuals wish to donate the cost of their tickets back to Phoenix Art Museum, they can contact tickets@phxart.org for more information. We are deeply appreciative of any support and generosity at this critical time, which will help to increase access to inspiring art for visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Information on the cancelation of Members’ and Circles of Support events can be found on phxart.org.

Precautionary Measures

The Museum will continue to maintain its high standards of cleanliness throughout all of its spaces. We are canceling all out-of-state business travel for our employees, and any employees currently out of town on personal or business travel will not be permitted to return to the Museum until two weeks after their return date. The Museum will also be installing additional hand-sanitizer stations throughout the Museum, which we encourage all guests to make use of during their visits.

Other safety recommendations the Museum would like to share with visitors and the community include the following:

  • Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds and with soap and water.
  • If opportunity for hand washing is not available, use hand sanitizers. The Museum currently has hand-sanitizer stations at the admissions desk and near the restrooms, with plans to add additional stations.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes. Hold a tissue over your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Throw that tissue away and wash your hands.
  • Avoid handshakes or hugs.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
