Throughout PhxArt’s European and Latin American art galleries, special installations drawn from the Phoenix Art Museum Collection create conversations between artworks from Europe and the Americas, including contemporary works and fashion-design objects.
Organized into seven distinct sections, the installations explore topics such as religious iconography and ecstasy in the Christian faith, Impressionism, the tradition of painting women in repose, and the legacy of women artists Adelaide Labile-Guiard and Marie Louise Elisabeth Vigèe-Le Brun. Throughout the galleries appear Reframed community labels, commissioned wall texts by curators, writers, subject-matter experts, and community members from diverse backgrounds, each of whom bring a unique voice and perspective to a specific collection work.
Featured artists include Suzanne Valadon, Claude Monet, unknown artists from Mexico, Gustave Courbet, Anthony Rizzi, Kehinde Wiley, Julius LeBlanc Stewart, and Dame Barbara Hepworth, among many others.
Special installations throughout the European art galleries at Phoenix Art Museum are made possible through the generosity of Focus on European Art. All exhibitions at Phoenix Art Museum are underwritten by the Phoenix Art Museum Exhibition Excellence Fund, founded by The Opatrny Family Foundation with additional major support provided by Joan Cremin.
