Bar Supervisor

Phoenix Art Museum is looking for a Bar Supervisor to oversee all aspects of bar service for Museum events. Prepare and organize bar setups, supervise staff during events, ensure smooth beverage operations, and maintain high service standards. Manage post-event breakdown procedures and liquor room organization, while serving as the primary point of contact for both staff and clients during events.

Job Duties:

  1. Serve as the responsible party for beverage service at Museum events, acting as on-duty Bar Supervisor in the absence of the Beverage Manager. Provide visible leadership, staff support, client liaison, and ensure smooth event flow.
  2. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise event bar staff. Lead pre-shift meetings to review event details, expectations, and bar packages, while maintaining a professional and positive atmosphere for staff, guests, members, and volunteers.
  3. Retrieve and review Bar Event Orders (BEOs), organize required beverages, and oversee bar setup according to floor plans and established standards. Ensure all bars are positioned on time and fully stocked before guest arrival.
  4. Act as primary point of contact for clients during events, confirming last-minute changes and making adjustments as needed. Address guest questions or concerns promptly to maintain satisfaction and event flow.
  5. Fulfill bartending duties when required, including serving beverages, preparing cocktails per instructions, and, at cash bars, accepting payment, making proper change, and ensuring accurate transactions.
  6. Monitor bar operations during events, including staff performance, restocking needs, and timeline adherence. Provide real-time problem-solving to ensure seamless beverage service.
  7. Supervise bar breakdown, product recounts, and cash drawer counts. Oversee return of unused product, reset and organize liquor room, and ensure supplies are properly stored for future use.
  8. Maintain par levels of beverages, mixers, fruit, and garnishes. Receive deliveries, unpack, restock, and organize liquor room shelves to ensure accurate inventory and efficient access.
  9. Ensure liquor room, bars, and coolers remain clean, safe, and orderly. Oversee sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and general maintenance of beverage service areas.
  10. Enforce Museum policies, liquor laws, and regulatory standards. Ensure responsible alcohol service, staff compliance, and consistent adherence to institutional guidelines.
  11. Model professionalism and positive engagement with guests, staff, and volunteers. Represent the Museum with courtesy, discretion, and respect in all interactions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of two years’ experience as a bartender. Supervisory experience in a public environment.
  3. Certification in Arizona Liquor Law Management Title 4 training; and Maricopa County Food Service Worker certification required.

Knowledge of:

  1. Arizona liquor laws and regulations
  2. Financial management of beverage operations through Square.
  3. All types/varieties of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including, beer, wine, spirits, cordials, preparation methods, pouring techniques, garnishes, and appropriate glassware.

Skill and ability to:

  1. Work many evenings and weekends. Event days will vary.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  3. Exhibit a neat professional appearance and positive attitude.
  1. Interact effectively with a wide range of Museum members, visitors, volunteers and staff.

Retail Sales Supervisor

Phoenix Art Museum is looking for a Retail Sales Supervisor to supervise all sales floor activity for the Retail Department by offering superior customer service, exceptional staff support and detailed product knowledge. Perform exemplary sales skills and tactics and set an example for Retail Associates to do the same. Maintain daily operations of the sales floor and serve as the main point of contact with patrons, ensuring an exceptional customer experience and outstanding lasting impression. Assist Retail Manager with merchandise receiving and visual displays.

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Offer prompt and courteous service to Museum patrons; provide professional, knowledgeable sales help and advice; address customer concerns.
  2. Assist in staff training, performance management and incentive programs to assist in Retail Associate growth and engagement.
  3. Continuously performs as MOD monitoring the daily sales floor activity and working closely with the Retail Manager to consistently maintain customer service standards.
  4. Assist Retail Manager with staff schedule, advise of staff availability and requests for time off, reference with weekly events calendar and school tours report.
  5. Run daily stock reports; delegate staff sales floor responsibilities accordingly, completing the daily recap and task assignments.
  6. Assist Retail Manager with merchandise receiving process by reconciling packing slips with invoice; receive purchase orders into Shopify POS system. Communicates discrepancies with vendors and follows up to ensure credit memos are obtained and applied accurately to invoices. Processes invoices for payment.
  7. Assists Retail Manager with initial merchandise product placement based on merchandise plan and product categories; merchandise and maintain product displays.
  8. Monitor and assist with online orders placed through Shopify POS system; address order concerns and shipping issues with customers.
  9. Conduct monthly supply checklist; order department supplies when necessary.
  10. Conduct weekly cycle counts of known inventory discrepancies.
  11. Conduct slow moving merchandise reports, recommend items for clearance.
  12. Perform ongoing reviews of stock levels; identify trends and recommend appropriate reorders.
  13. Stay informed of Museum policies, promotions, activities and upcoming events by proactively seeking out and obtaining information.
  14. Assist with annual physical inventory count and procedures.
  15. Answer customer correspondence requests, questions via email, online chat, and phone.
  16. Perform all Retail Associate duties as needed; act as MOD during evenings, weekends and other special events as assigned by Retail Manager.
  17. Perform Retail Operations Supervisor duties in case of absence.
  18. Maintain a flexible schedule that includes availability for evening and weekend shifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent, some college and interest in art, art history and/or museums preferred.
  2. Minimum one year’s experience in retail/customer service.
  3. Supervisor experience in retail/customer service preferred.

Knowledge of:

  1. Cash handling and cash handling procedures.

Skill and Ability to:

  1. Operate a POS system (Shopify preferred), proficient with Windows and Apple based programs
  2. Excellent customer service skills, highly organized, flexible and detail oriented
  3. Communicate and interact effectively with a wide range of Museum members, visitors, volunteers and staff
  4. Lift and/or carry 50 pounds, sometimes repeatedly, sometimes intermittently, during the course of a shift
  5. Neat, professional image and positive attitude
