
An active member of the Phoenix, Arizona, art scene since 1982, Annie Lopez has consistently created new bodies of narrative work. Her art reflects her experiences through the use of family photographs, vintage photos, personal letters and stories. She is best known for her use of cyanotype, a photographic printing process.
Lopez has exhibited her work in numerous venues across the United States, including the Smithsonian, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe. She was selected to represent Arizona in the exhibition Paper Routes-Women To Watch 2020 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Her work is in the collection of Phoenix Art Museum; Weatherspoon Art Museum in North Carolina; Arizona State University Art Museum; The Tucson Museum of Art; The National Hispanic Cultural Center in New Mexico; and the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Glendale, Arizona. For 17 years, Lopez was a member of the nationally recognized Chicano arts organization Movimiento Artístico del Río Salado (MARS). She has received numerous awards for her work, including a Governor’s Arts Award, a Mayor’s Arts Award, and a Congressional Commendation.
