Favoring an overhead perspective in his paintings of rodeos and corrals, the canvases of Howard Post have a strong sense of design and color. The artist’s father was a cowboy, and his son competed in rodeos. When he was growing up, it was his job “to patch the broken corrals and fences. I like the abstract patterning that happened.” As he travels, the artist photographs scenes whose patterns intrigue him but his “ranchscapes” are more interpretations than literal renditions.
