PHOENIX (July 18, 2019)
– Phoenix Art Museum announces the renewal of a generous gift from Discount
Tire to provide free general admission for all guests on the second Sunday of
each month. Through December 2019, the Museum will continue to present Discount Tire Free Family Sundays, which
feature free admission and a variety of special hands-on, educational experiences
inspired by the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions, including
bilingual family programming, designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. The
gift continues the legacy of decreasing economic barriers to the arts that
began three years ago with sponsorship by the national tire and wheel retailer, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Discount Tire has supported more than 50 days of free general admission since 2016,
drawing more than 100,000 visitors to the Museum.
“Phoenix Art
Museum is immensely grateful for the continued generosity of Discount Tire and
its tireless commitment to the Museum and our community,” said Nicole Rivet,
Chief Development Officer of Phoenix Art Museum. “Over the years, this gift has
made a tremendous impact, enabling the Museum to increase access and bring the
transformative power of art to so many across the Valley of the Sun. We are
incredibly grateful to Diane Halle and everyone at Discount Tire for supporting
our mission, as we continue to create a Museum where everyone is welcomed to
engage with inspiring art from around the world.”
In addition to opportunities to experience art throughout
the galleries, the Museum’s Education Department will continue to feature interactive experiences, hands-on
art activities and bilingual story time.
A special “motion” themed Free Family Sunday on November 10 will celebrate
the opening of the Legends of Speed
exhibition with live performances, mini movement workshops, STEAM activities
and creative collaborations with Phoenix-based artists. Since 2016, the Museum has collaborated with
organizations and performers such as Phoenix Public Library, Liliana Gomez, Arizona
PBS, Arizona Musicfest, First
Things First, Girls Rock! Phoenix, Nuebox, and many more.
General
admission to Phoenix Art Museum is currently $21 for adults, $18 for seniors,
$11 for students with current ID, $9 for children aged six and older, and
always free for children ages five and younger.
Discount Tire
Free Family Sundays offer a significant savings by waiving general admission
pricing and providing access to special-engagement exhibitions at just $5 per
visitor (aged six and older). The current special-engagement exhibition, Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist, features more than 40 paintings by the little known American
artist, distinguished by her abstract studies of earth and light, biomorphic
compositions of delicate veils, shimmering stars, and atmospheric horizon lines.
