Phoenix Art Museum launches first digital guide through Bloomberg Connects app

Museum joins more than 250 cultural institutions around the globe on app powered by Bloomberg Philanthropies, with exclusive interpretive materials and audio/visual content offered in 100+ languages

PHOENIX (January 25, 2024) – Phoenix Art Museum (PhxArt) has launched a new digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The digital guide offers a new way to experience PhxArt either from home or while exploring the galleries. Exclusive content includes photo, audio, and video features highlighting select exhibitions; insight from community members and curators on artworks from the Phoenix Art Museum Collection; and exclusive interviews with artists. Phoenix Art Museum is live on the Bloomberg Connects app beginning today, and content will be regularly updated with collection spotlights and upcoming exhibitions.

“We are excited to launch this digital guide in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies,” said Jeremy Mikolajczak, the Sybil Harrington Director and CEO of Phoenix Art Museum. “The Bloomberg Connects app empowers the Museum to provide a new, dynamic way to experience art in our collections and special exhibitions at a deeper level. We are grateful that Bloomberg Philanthropies has created such a powerful tool that not only increases opportunities for arts and cultural engagement at no cost to users but also allows institutions like Phoenix Art Museum to share the art in our galleries with a wider, global audience.”

Phoenix Art Museum joins other notable visual art museums with digital guides on the Bloomberg Connects app, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Museum of Modern Art in New York City; Walker Art Center; Brooklyn Museum; Cincinnati Art Museum; The Design Museum, London, UK; El Museo del Barrio; The Frick Collection; Hammer Museum; and ICA Miami, among others. To utilize the free mobile app, users can download the Bloomberg Connects app straight to their smartphones. As they travel through the galleries, they can learn more about select artworks on view that have the Bloomberg Connects logo on their label with a lookup number. Highlighted content includes exclusive interviews from curators, staff members, and members from the local community who give deeper and personal insight into artworks from the Phoenix Art Museum Collection. The guide also includes insights from Arizona-based artists, including Antionette Cauley, Hector Ruiz, George Thiewes, and Aileen Martinez. Additionally, users will enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into Guarding the Art: A Frontline Perspective, the first exhibition of its kind at the Museum to feature works from the Phoenix Art Museum Collection of more than 20,000 objects selected by guest curators from the institution’s frontline security, retail-sales, and event-rentals teams. All Museum content available on the Bloomberg Connects app can also be accessed outside of the galleries, so users can experience PhxArt wherever they are in the world.
