Description

Interested in dualities, dichotomies, and juxtapositions, Nathan Mabry draws inspiration for his sculptures from a variety of sources ranging from ancient civilizations to pop culture. His work fuses elements of minimalist sculpture with ethnographic imagery and references to Western art history. For Two Vessels (Unpacked) Mabry altered a work of art from the western Mexican state of Jalisco by creating a mashup of appropriated stances and design elements from works by modern European artists such as Aristide Maillol, Joan Miró, and Henry Moore.
