ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The objects on view in Clay and Bamboo: Japanese Ceramics and Flower Baskets blend centuries of Japanese tradition with contemporary approaches to material and function. The simple, asymmetrical forms of featured clay vessels contain slight imperfections purposefully added to enhance the innate qualities of the natural materials. Examples of bamboo baskets, on the other hand, illuminate the many techniques and symbolism of basket weaving, which has origins in China.
