INFOCUS Juried Exhibition of Self-Published Photobooks

Saturday, August 23, 2014 - Sunday, September 28, 2014 Doris and John Norton Gallery for the Center for Creative Photography

Following the success of the first Juried Exhibition of Self-Published Photobooks, held in 2014, INFOCUS, the Photography Support Organization of Phoenix Art Museum, will invite photographers to submit self-published photography books for the second triennial INFOCUS Juried Exhibition of Self-Published Photobooks to be presented in the Norton Photography Gallery of Phoenix Art Museum. The Museum is proud to again open its galleries to artists exploring current commercial technologies in order to express themselves. INFOCUS is soliciting books of any subject including retrospective, project-based, souvenir albums, fictional narrative, exhibition catalogues, poetic, biographical, or children’s books, and welcomes collaborative or collective books in addition to those by a single author.

ABOUT THIS EXHIBIT

A total of 111 selected self-published photobooks will be on view from all over the United States (including four local examples from Arizona), and 12 countries (five continents) including Australia, Russia, Chile, Norway, The Netherlands, England, Germany, France, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, and Italy. All submission were created between 2014 and the present, representing some of the best examples of self-publishing from the last three years. Selected books used a range of printing technology including offset lithography, digital inkjet printing, letterpress, laser printing, and photocopying. Books will be presented in the galleries on tables, surrounded by chairs, to allow museum visitors to handle, examine and read the books at their own pace. Visitors to the 2014 exhibition often spent more than an hour in the gallery, lost in the range, sophistication, and quality of the international submissions. We invite you to do the same!
