Our Arts Engagement Program (AEP) is a nationally renowned program that brings the benefits of the visual arts to adults with mild to moderate forms of dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease) and their care partners. By providing opportunities for social engagement, community participation, and interaction with the visual arts in a welcoming, safe, lively, and judgment-free environment, we hope to improve the quality of life for our community members and their care partners.
AEP is offered twice a year and includes conversational gallery experiences, interactive tours, tactile activities, and more. Registration for AEP is $50 per patient-care partner dyad. Space is limited, and registration is required.
Learn how to focus on the present and live in the moment with a free, 30-minute mindfulness session. Scientific studies show the art of mindfulness can relieve anxiety, depression, pain, and stress and actually change the way you feel, think, work, and play by opening new pathways in the brain. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction was developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979 by physicist Jon Kabat-Zinn.
No RSVP required. Mindfulness sessions are free and open to the public. Virtual sessions are presented through Zoom, a video-conference program, in collaboration with Hospice of the Valley.
Take a little extra time to look, listen, and relax your mind with our teams of art educators and mindfulness guides at monthly Slow Art sessions. Through art and guided meditation, you’ll connect with the present moment as you reflect deeply on a select artwork from our collection or a current exhibition.
Offered on the third Thursday of each month, from noon–12:45 pm.
Free for Members, included with general admission. Spaces limited. RSVP required. Please see event for more details.
We invite all PhxArt Members 65 and older to participate in our daytime art discussion, offered on the second Thursday of each month. Attendees enjoy a Docent-led conversation around a single work of art and share their thoughts, observations, and questions while enjoying complimentary coffee and breakfast treats.
Free for Museum Members. Seating is limited, and RSVPs are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please see event for more details. Email email@example.com with questions.
We are more than happy to bring art to our community, beyond our galleries. Community Outreach is a long-standing, off-site outreach program that brings art to senior populations outside of the Museum and across the entire Valley. Our Docents create customized, thematic, image-based presentations with artworks from the Museum’s collection and present them at senior community centers, senior living facilities, and other venues serving predominantly older-adult populations.
