Discover the graphic universe of iconic American fashion designer Anna Sui, inhabited by grunge girls, hippie chicks, Mods, and pirate rock stars. Born and raised in Detroit, Sui was educated in New York City as part of a generation of designers who remade American style in the 1990s. Together with Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Vivienne Tam, and others, she produced silhouettes that reflected the exuberant, rebellious youth culture of the time. Since then, Sui has launched more than 80 collections of ready-to-wear garments. She’s also expanded into the realm of accessories, cosmetics, fragrances, and interior design, crafting maximal environments to house her fantastical characters and creations.
This April, PhxArt presents the Arizona premiere of The World of Anna Sui, featuring more than 100 ensembles, accessories, and ephemera that immerse viewers in Sui’s world of rock ‘n’ roll romance.
