Phoenix Art Museum extends reduced $5-admission program for children and teens courtesy of local donors
Valley family to support discount-admission program for kids, featuring reduced “field trip” pricing for all visitors younger than 18, through June 30, 2021
PHOENIX (February 1, 2021) –Effective February 1, 2021, Phoenix Art Museum has extended its PhxArt Field Trip for Kids program, which reduces admission for all visitors younger than 18 from $14 to the institution’s field-trip rate of $5 per youth, offering an affordable way for working families who have been economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to visit the Museum. Made possible by a gift from Judy and Bill Goldberg, the program, which represents a 60% reduction in youth admission, will run through June 30, 2021. Since its launch in October 2020, the PhxArt Field Trip for Kids program has provided more than 1,600 youth with discounted admission.
“We are very excited to extend our PhxArt Field Trip for Kids program so that parents and children alike can continue to enjoy fun, educational experiences at Phoenix Art Museum at a reduced cost,” said Tim Rodgers, PhD, the Museum’s Sybil Harrington Director and CEO. “Phoenix Art Museum is deeply grateful to Judy and Bill Goldberg for their generosity in support of our discounted youth admission rate. At a time when families across our state are facing very serious financial difficulties, the Goldberg family has stepped in to make a meaningful investment in our community by helping to reduce economic barriers that prevent people from accessing art.”
Each year, more than 20,000 students visit the Museum as part of its school-tours program, which offers a reduced field-trip admission rate of just $5 per student. School visits to Phoenix Art Museum, along with other institutions, help to provide a foundational connection to arts and culture for young people and often represent their only opportunity to experience museums. With the suspension of school tours at Phoenix Art Museum to safeguard the health and well-being of students as well as other Museum visitors, volunteers, and staff, and in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Arizona families, the Museum created in October 2020 a new discounted admission program, PhxArt Field Trip for Kids, to ensure Arizona students can still learn about and experience art during the pandemic in an affordable, socially distanced way. In addition to implementing reduced general admission for youth, the Museum suspended the $5 special-exhibition charge for visitors younger than 18 during voluntary-donation hours, including Pay-What-You-Wish Wednesdays, offered weekly from 3 – 7 pm, and monthly First Fridays from 3 – 7 pm. Through January 31, 2021, discounted youth pricing was made possible through the generosity of UMB Bank and William T. Kemper Charitable Foundation, UMB Bank, n.a. Trustee. Beginning today, February 1, 2021, discounted youth pricing is made possible by a gift from Judy and Bill Goldberg, Valley donors who wished to support Museum efforts to increase access to art for the community’s youngest members and their families.
“Phoenix Art Museum means a great deal to us as a family, and we are excited to be able to support the Museum amidst the challenges of COVID-19 while also providing a way for working families to be able to enjoy the Museum despite the financial hardships of the pandemic,” said Judy Goldberg, who also serves on the Museum’s Board of Trustees. “We hope that for so many managing the stress of the pandemic that the Museum can offer some respite together, as a family.”
Phoenix Art Museum, with the support of the Goldberg family, will offer the $5 discounted admission rate for youth through June 30, 2021, at which point the Museum will evaluate its financial capacity to continue the program and the status of the pandemic in Arizona. The waived $5 special-exhibition charge for youth during the Museum’s free times will also be offered through June 30, 2021.
